STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- After attending Sunday mass in Santa Maria Assunta R.C. Church, in their hometown of Bagnoli Irpino in Avellino, Italy, Elvira Delli Bovi was introduced to Angelo Chieffo. A six month courtship followed and on August 18, 1958, in the very same church, the couple exchanged wedding vows to become Mr. and Mrs. Angelo Chieffo.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- When Corinne Magnotti and George Hind first met while working at the same company, they wagered a friendly bet on the outcome of the World Series between the Brooklyn Dodges and the New York Yankees. The loser was to buy dinner.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Former South Beach residents Palma and Joseph Caracappa, former residents of South Beach for 37 years, were recently feted by their children on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary at the home of their daughter, Pamela Olkowitz, of Brick, N.J. Jessie Mattia, maid of honor, and Joseph Cassano, best man, joined in the celebration.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- When Mary Morreale and Salvatore Leto first met in 1937, she was just 11 years old, and he had just entered his teen years. She was impressed by his sharp clothing, plaid portable radio and chrome bicycle. He thought she was an all around beauty.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Brooklyn natives Christine and Samuel Santapaola recently invited family and friends to join them in celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary at a party at the South Shore Country Club in Huguenot. Among the guests were Mindy Moncada Russo, Christine's sister, of Bohemia, L.I., who was the maid of honor, and John Santapaola, Sam's brother of Willowbrook, who was the best man. There were also cousins who came from Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A love of big bands and ballroom dancing brought a Michigan gal and a Brooklyn guy together at Roseland, in Manhattan, the place to dance in New York in the 1940s and 50s. Dona Marie Sims thought Baldassaro (Joe) Ruggiero was so handsome that when her friend refused his invitation to dance, and he asked her, she didn't hesitate.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bertolini of Dongan Hills celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a party in the Island Chateau, Grasmere, where they welcomed family and friends. Joining the revelers were members of the original bridal party, including Mr. Bertolini's brother, Julius of Concord, who served as best man; usher Mrs. Bertolini's brother John Freeo of Oakwood who was an usher, and bridesmaid Gladys Cabral da Silva from Florida.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Susan and Carlos E. Mendez of Mariners Harbor celebrated 50 years of married life when a party was held in their honor in the church hall of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Richmond. Family members and friends attended from Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Sally Lo Porto met Tosano (Tony) Simonetti at a church dance in the parish hall of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Brooklyn, similar to the way lots of couples were introduced back then -- during the 1950's and 1960's. They dated for two years -- a courtship that would ultimately result in a long-lasting marriage.
