Police today released video surveillance footage of a man and woman using a credit card that was reported stolen in one of the heists.

The male and female have been labeled persons of interest in the case, and it is not clear what role they played in the robberies.

Stabbing claims the life of Staten Island man

    by Staten Island Advance
    Friday November 28, 2008, 2:30 AM

Police investigate a fatal stabbing on John Street in Port Richmond, Staten Island. ADVANCE/BILL LYONS
A young man died early this morning after being stabbed in the chest on a Port Richmond street in Staten Island, apparently after a dispute.

The victim -- identified only as "Michael" and possibly 19 years old -- was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center, West Brighton, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The teen's death is the borough's 20th homicide thus far this year, and the 12th for the North Shore's 120th Precinct, according to police statistics.

This time last year, there had been nine slaying in the borough, which was a 50 percent decline from the same time period in 2006.

Staten Island ended 2007 with 12 murders. In 2006, there were 20 homicides.

Last night's stabbing occurred just before 1 a.m. on John Street, a dead end off Richmond Terrace that abuts an overpass for the defunct North Shore Railway.

A suspect -- identified only as "Reggie" -- was described as bald, standing 5 feet, 8 inches, weighing about 170 pounds and wearing a checkered shirt.

Believed to be a resident of the block, he may have run into a nearby home and heavily armed Emergency Service Unit police officers responded to search the area.

Residents said the two men appeared to be intoxicated as they fought with one another.

The investigation is continuing, police said.

Last night's fatal attack occurred on the same block where, in July, Henry Piotrowski, 90, was mauled by a neighbor's two pitbulls. Piotrowski died a month later.

The dogs were euthanized. Their owners -- James McNair, 28, and Kim DiPrima, 37 -- now face manslaughter charges.
